about

First written as a harp tune and played as a march in the 1600s, this tune was later chosen as the melody for an
Irish Gaelic song (Fáinne Geal an Lae) which translates as “the dawning of the day”. The late great Luke Kelly of
the Dubliners added Patrick Kavanagh’s beautiful love poem and titled the now much loved song,
‘Raglan Road”, keeping the translated last line “at the dawning of the day”. Karen has taken the poignant
sentiment and of the poem, its original 4/4 timing and arranged this minor incarnation.
